Since my last post, I went to SacAnime and traveled out Kraken Con in Alameda. In terms of showcasing the manga me and munchiesTM are working on, I've pretty much shown every artist I know at SacAnime from the past 3 years since I started going there and it's gotten the same positive feedback. Kraken Con was a different story. Coming out of Kraken Con, it was probably least I showcased it, but at the same time it was probably the most fulfilling.

I wasn't able to show :iconyuumei: at SacAnime, but guess who had the first table when you enter the con? Yep, yuumei. She was the first Deviant to see the script before it was even finished, so showing her completed pages just felt like something I had to do and it's finally done. It only took 5 months, but the wait felt like forever.

Something else that was different was that it got into the hands of ordinary manga readers. Getting it into the hands of regular con-goers instead of an artist with a table was pretty big, especially since they read and enjoyed the sample. Getting it into the hands of a target group to see how well it does isn't something I've done, but they're part of, if not most, of my target audience. It'd be a lot easier to reach out to them if I had my own table (and stuff to sell), but I'm glad people in the general public, even if it's just a few, like it.

I guess the most important part of Kraken Con was the ride back to Oakland. Waiting for the shuttle back, I just happened to meet Hayden, who hosts the Sugoi Squad anime podcast (There's a good chance I'll be on the podcast talking about the manga. I'll save that for another journal if/when it comes out). Got a lot of encouragement from Hayden about the direction of the story, which is something writers who are just starting out would love to hear.

So that's Kraken Con, but what about the other projects in the title? I've working on two other projects, both that come from Tapastic, which is an awesome platform for finding webcomics if you haven't been there.

The first one is a one-shot called Day Trip, set in the San Francisco Bay Area. The script was done for a contest but the project it fell through. Since the script is finished and I'm just reviewing the content, lizrefridge :iconlizrefridge: will be working on the art.

The other project is a big one, involving multiple artists and writers. Me and dreamingrabbitpress :icondreamingrabbitpress: are on as writers. Solarea :iconsolarea: Elmvine :iconelmvine: will be the artists. It's all put together by James, who'll write and illustrate. I'm pretty excited to work on multiple projects at once because it keeps my creativity going. Cant' wait to see what comes out of al of this!

Attended StocktonCon for the first time last weekend and it was fun! Like I did at Wizard World Comic Con Sacramento, I took a preview of the manga that me and munchiesTM are working on to Stockton, going from table to table and showcasing it to comic creators. The only difference I was able to show it to a group of artists that I'm very familiar with after going to SacAnime for the past 3 years and I'll be seeing most of them again at SacAnime in a few weeks. :D

Like Wizard World, it was met with positive reviews and it's great that they want to find out how the rest of the story goes. My main concern is if the story I wrote can carry the reader's interest through the whole story. ArtByMelissaM runs a great webcomic called Epic Chaos here on DA that's wrapping up chapter 4. She also does pretty good commissions too (here's what she did for me!). It was good to hear from her that the story has good pacing, so I know it's going in the right direction so far. My only goal is that the story sustains the reader's interest the rest of the way.

Until then...Hi!

This will be my first time visiting StocktonCon and I'm really excited to see what it has to offer, although visiting one of Forbes' Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities doesn't have me thrilled Mordecai is not amused. Icon  I know a few artists from that I haven't seen since January that I'm excited to see a month before SacAnime. Hopefully, I'll meet some new artists too. When I bought my ticket at a local comic book store, I was told that it's a lot more comic influenced than SacAnime, so this would be a great time to showcase the manga me and :iconmunchiestm: are working on, since it got some great reviews at Wizard World Comic Con :D (Big Grin)

I started going to cons back in 2012 when I was at school in L.A. WonderCon had just moved to from San Francisco to Anaheim for it's first year there. I had been following :icondarkkenjie: for a while, with his hilarious Pokemon Awkward series. WonderCon was the first my major con and it was a blast! It'd better have been worth it, it took me 3 hours to get there and back by public transit :| (Blank Stare)

Since coming back to Sacramento, I've been to every SacAnime since Summer 2012 and some of the artists I met at WonderCon have tables at SacAnime too, including :iconyuumei: SacCon will be a lot more convenient to visit now that it's closer to home and at a bigger venue. Wizard World made it's debut in Sac last year. It didn't have as much space as it needed last year, but this year was way better w00t!

I went to Japan Expo in San Mateo last year since the one in France is super popular, but the American version wasn't worth trip and I would have rather hung around San Francisco. To me, it was too unorganized to be worth a bus and commuter train trip.

Hopefully, I'd like to visit Kraken Con in Oakland and FannimeCon in San Jose. A couple of bigger cons that I'd love to visit are Anime Expo in L.A. and, of course, ComicCon in San Jose. One day

If you know about Wizard World Comic Con, you’ll know that it’s one of the biggest conventions in America with stops all around the country, including Sacramento. I took my iPad Mini and went to Day 1 on Friday to showcase the first completed pages of me and munchiesTM’s manga to pro comic creators and the results were all positive.

munchiesTM’s artwork got a lot of praise and some of them were so captivated by the story that they were disappointed they couldn’t swipe to anymore pages. It was really encouraging to hear from pros that we’re doing well this early in the story and they'll be the first to know when it hits the web.

There’s even a talent director from a local publisher who wants me to make it into a series and I'm being encouraged to submit it for publication later this year, but I’ll put that to the side for now. The main focus is finishing the next part of the comic and getting this on the web.

Unless I can start going to a local comic creator group that's way out of my way or for some reason I decide to go to StocktonCon, the next time I can get any feedback in-person would be SacAnime in early-September. By then, we should already have pages online and I can't wait for the day that happens.
